Chemical Peel
Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center offers chemical peels to the residents of Pasadena, CA. We also service Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Rigor performs three levels of chemical peels — light, medium and deep. Chemical peels use special types of acids to remove the damaged layers of skin. Light chemical peels provide more subtle improvements, and address problems such as uneven skin color, dry skin, acne and fine lines. Light chemical peels can be repeated every month. Medium chemical peels give you smoother skin by removing acne scars, wrinkles and uneven skin color. Medium chemical peels work at the epidermis and dermis layers of your skin and can be repeated every six to 12 months. Dr. Rigor recommends deep chemical peels for patients who want to correct deep wrinkles or creases, sun damage, scars, blotchy patches and some pre-cancerous growths. The results of a deep chemical peel can last for up to 10 years.
How can a chemical peel by Dr. Rigor improve my appearance?
Because chemical peels address a wide variety of skin problems, Dr. Rigor recommends these procedures to many of his patients in Pasadena and Los Angeles, CA. After your chemical peel, you have smoother, healthier skin that is free of fine lines, wrinkles, acne and discoloration.
What happens during the chemical peel at Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center?
For the three levels of chemical peels, Dr. Rigor uses the same general process. There are variations in the types of chemicals used and the length of time that the chemicals remain on the skin.
For light chemical peels, Dr. Rigor cleans and dries your skin. He applies a chemical solution that remains on your skin for up to 10 minutes. You may experience a mild stinging sensation.
Dr. Rigor uses a slightly stronger chemical solution for medium chemical peels. The solution remains on your skin for a few minutes. You may experience a slight stinging or warming sensation. The chemicals are neutralized and rinsed from your skin.
If your treatment plan includes a deep chemical peel, you have a pre-treatment phase before the chemical peel. The pre-treatment is typically eight weeks and helps prepare your skin for the peel. Dr. Rigor administers a sedative and local anesthesia to help you remain comfortable. After cleaning your skin, Dr. Rigor applies phenol to your skin, which stays on your skin for 30 minutes to two hours. The chemical is neutralized, and your skin is allowed to rest for one hour. Dr. Rigor applies a layer of petroleum jelly, and the petroleum jelly remains on your skin for up to two days.
How long is the healing period after the chemical peel by Dr. Rigor?
For a light chemical peel, you may have a sensation that is similar to a sunburn for up to five days. Medium chemical peels typically heal within six weeks, and deep chemical peels can take up to three months.
