Spider Vein Treatment
Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center offers spider vein treatment to the residents of Pasadena, CA. We also service Los Angeles, CA. Spider veins are caused by a condition known as venous reflux. The body’s blood supply is returned to the heart through a system of veins. The veins have small flaps that open and close, allowing the blood to pass without backflowing. When the flaps do not close properly, the blood pools, causing the veins to swell and weaken. Spider vein treatment targets the swollen vessels and destroys them. The body absorbs the damaged vessels and re-routes the blood through healthier veins.
How can spider vein treatment by Dr. Rigor improve my appearance?
Dr. Rigor has recommended spider vein treatment to many of his patients in Pasadena and Los Angeles, CA. You may be more susceptible to spider veins due to heredity, pregnancy, changes in hormones, weight gain and activities that require you to stand for long periods of time. Spider vein treatment eliminates the small, web-like lines on your face and legs that are caused by poor circulation.
What happens during the spider vein treatment at Rigor Dermatology & Laser Center?
Spider veins are treated with a procedure known as sclerotherapy or with lasers. In some cases, both techniques are used to achieve the best possible results. During your consultation appointment, Dr. Rigor discusses the treatment plan with you, including the type and number of treatments. For sclerotherapy, Dr. Rigor injects a special chemical into the damaged vein. The chemical causes the vein to collapse. The vein is then absorbed by the body. For laser treatments, Dr. Rigor uses a small, handheld device to administer laser energy to the damaged vein. Laser treatments are done from the surface of the skin, and the laser does not affect your skin. The energy from the laser destroys the damaged vein. You may need several treatments to eliminate your spider veins.
How long is the healing period after the spider vein treatment by Dr. Rigor?
The healing period for spider vein treatment may be as little as one week and as long as one month. Within the first week, you will need to walk frequently. This helps the body re-route the blood through healthier veins. You may be required to wear compression stockings for three to six weeks. You should restrict your activities for at least one month, including exercise. After one month, you may begin light exercise, but, if you plan to run or lift weights, please consult with Dr. Rigor prior to resuming these activities.
